Report on the activities of mining authorities in 2023
The State Mining Authority has developed a “Report on the activities of mining authorities in 2023”. The document presents, among others: administrative, control, repressive, legislative, information and publishing activities of the mining offices in the last year.
Krzysztof Król, PhD Eng., acting President of the State Mining Authority
As of March 25, 2024, Prime Minister Donald Tusk dismissed Adam Mirek, PhD Eng., from the position of President of the State Mining Authority. On March 26, 2024, the Prime Minister appointed the 1st Vice-President of the State Mining Authority, Krzysztof Król, PhD Eng., to act as the President of the State Mining Authority until a permanent President is appointed.

As of today, I was dismissed from the position of President of the State Mining Authority by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. I held this position proudly for more than seven years.
“St. Barbara’s Day and mining traditions” - our application to UNESCO is complete
On March 14, a working meeting was held in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Warsaw to discuss the international application titled “St. Barbara’s Day and mining traditions” for entry on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.
Advisory Committee - the Senior Council
As of March 8, 2024, the President of the State Mining Authority signed a disposition on the appointment of the Advisory Committee - the Senior Council. The Council is an advisory and guidance body.
2024 Underground Mining School
The 33rd edition of the Underground Mining School took place on February 26-28, 2024 in Krakow. It is a cyclic science and technology conference attended by practicing miners, representatives of companies associated with mining and scientists to exchange their views and solutions. For years, the event has been regarded as one of the most important meetings of engineers and scientists working in and for the underground mining industry.

The 24th Conference “Problems of safety and health protection in the Polish mining industry” will be held in Wisła on April 18 and 19, 2024.
In 2023, the mining helpline rang 54 times
The State Mining Authority helpline was launched in 2011. It is available 24h a day, seven days a week. Calls are answered by an on-duty dispatcher who receives notifications about various irregularities and safety hazards in mining plants. Such notifications can be also made by e-mail at wug@wug.gov.pl and by traditional mail. All notifications are recorded, carefully analyzed and verified by mining supervision inspectors.
ATEX AdCo group meeting
The 36th meeting of the ATEX AdCo group - the European working group for administrative cooperation in the area of Directive 2014/34/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 February 2014 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres - was held in Brussels on 13, 14 December.
Meeting devoted to amendments to the Geological and Mining Law
On Wednesday, December 13, the management of the District Mining Office in Wrocław held a meeting with representatives of the business sector, the management and supervisors of open-pit mining plants, and the representatives of companies performing blasting works.
