Expert centre to guard industrial infrastructure

23 June 2025

On June 23, in Warsaw three institutions, the Polish Geological Institute National - Research Institute and the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and the State Mining Authority, signed an agreement on the establishment of the Centre for Exchange and Analysis of Information for Raw Materials and Geodiversity. The fundamental aim of the venture is to improve the protection of the country's industrial infrastructure against cyber attacks.

In addition, it will improve the ability to jointly respond to cyber threats by protecting IT/OT systems in the raw materials industry, early warning of threats and incidents, development of digital resilience standards, education and empowerment of human resources, use of modern technologies (AI and digital twins) in risk analysis.

The agreement on the establishment of the ISAC SIG is an important step towards systemic digital protection in the geological and mining sector, combining scientific competence (in terms of risk analysis and research methods), technological capabilities (monitoring of IT/OT systems), as well as the digitalisation of geology and the organisation of activities (as required by the Law on the National Cyber Security System).

The centre (ISAC SIG) was established as a joint initiative of the research, public and industrial sectors.
