Festive celebrations in Labin (Croatia)

2 March 2020

On 1 March 2020, a delegation from the State Mining Authority headed by the President of the State Mining Authority, Adam Mirek, attended a meeting to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the so-called Labin Republic.

Located in southeastern Istria, the town had an underground hard coal mine with a total of about 40 million tons of coal extracted by the late 1990s.

During the ceremony, the President Adam Mirek, acting on behalf of Adam Gawęda, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, presented Tulio Demetlik, a member of the Croatian Parliament, with a diploma awarding the rank of the Honorary General Mining Director.

Valter Glavičić, the Mayor of Labin, acquainted the representatives of the State Mining Authority with the possibilities of opening the underground part of the mine excavations for tourist purposes.

During the whole stay, the Polish delegation was cared for by the Honorary Consul of Croatia, Andrzej Żylak, who was also one of the initiators of the meeting.
