Safety of operations in the Baltic Sea under supervision
21 January 2026On 21 January, at the request of the Director of the District Mining Office in Gdańsk, a meeting of the Commission for the Safety of Activities Involving the Exploration, Appraisal or Extraction of Hydrocarbons from Deposits within the Maritime Areas of the Republic of Poland was held.
During the meeting, the Director of the Office and the Operations Manager of the ORLEN Petrobaltic mining plant discussed rules and best practices relating to the safety of offshore infrastructure operated by ORLEN Petrobaltic.
Furthermore, the Director of the Department for the Supervision of Methane Emissions and Strata Management outlined the obligations of gas transmission and distribution operators under Regulation (EU) 2024/1787 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 June 2024 on the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector.
The Commission for the Safety of Activities Involving the Exploration, Appraisal or Extraction of Hydrocarbons from Deposits within the Maritime Areas of the Republic of Poland is responsible for developing and updating standards and guidelines on best practices for the control of major hazards at mining facilities. Such hazards are understood as situations that may potentially lead to dangerous incidents or accidents at any stage of these activities.
