Unexploded ordnance in the pit
16 July 2025We are all well aware that mining workers face specific hazards. But the risks are sometimes not obvious. For example, it is possible to discover unexploded weapons from the World War II.
On 14 July, at the Turów Lignite Mine, while working with an excavator in the pit, unexploded ordnance was discovered - two well-preserved German panzerfausts. The crew immediately withdrew from the danger area, and traffic was halted. The site was secured, and the District Mining Office in Wrocław conducted an inspection.
The next day, the military sappers went into action and inspected the danger area. They found one more Panzerfaust and one warhead. Finally, they detonated four warheads before 3 pm. and eliminated the danger.
