This study sets forth an implementation of the balanced development in the mining enterprises of the Południowy Koncern Węglowy S.A. through the accepted implementation program of new technologies improving the quality, safety and hygiene at work as well as through environmental actions related to reducing the amount of wastes generated in the extraction industry, deep remaking of the materials accompanying the coal mining and production to the products of practical application. Next to planned investment and organizational actions there are presented treatment processes of waste coal-containing mud into a mud granulate, treatment of waste rock into an aggregate or aggregate mixtures improved with mineral binders as well as methods of mining waste management at the bottom of the Mining Enterprise “Sobieski” or through other business entities dealing with mine waste recovery by reclamation method.

The article presents a complicated technology of exploitation of coal beds in the upthrow
Podłęże under Przemsza river and settling pond Biały Brzeg. There are not occurred
essential water inlets in the course of exploitation. A disturbance of rock mass owing
to exploitation caused secondary fracturing. The increased water inlets have appeared in
particular in zones of faulting. For flood prevention the earthen embankment up to 5
meters in height was built-up on the surface of the ground.

In the article there was presented a seismic activity of rock mass in the coal bed 209 of
upthrow “E-Wschód” and upthrow “E-Zachód” against a background of coal deposit’s
geologic structure. It was characterized the rock burst hazard and seismic hazard on the
surface of the ground. There were discussed methods of applied prevention. The
efficiency of applied prevention was assessed on the grounds of results from carried out
monitoring of seismic activity

The system description of shock of rock mass registration kept by the Mining Enterprise “Sobieski” belonging to Południowy Koncern Węglowy S.A. was presented in this article. There was set forth seismic activity accompanied with coal deposit mining in the area of Jaworzno city in 1984-2009.
The article discusses an observation method of seismic activity through the Górnośląska
Regionalna Sieć Sejsmologiczna [the Upper Silesian Regional Seismologic Network]
belonging to the Główny Instytut Górnictwa [the Central Mining Institute]. It was
described the structure of the Seismological Observation System „SOS”. There are
presented programs used to analyze seismic signals - Sejsgram and Multilok.

The subject of this article is the issues of application of the geodetic and geophysical
methods for mining subsidence hazard assessment resulting from previous experience of
the authors of study in a conducting of that kind of research on the post-mining land.
There is included a discussion of specificity of the geodetic and geophysical research
from a point of view of interpretative and measuring capabilities. The advantages and
restrictions of both methods need to be emphasized. As an example of application of the
geodetic and geophysical methods for mining subsidence hazard assessment was
presented a region of an old liquidated shaft on the post-mining land of calamine ore
exploitation.
