23rd “Problems of safety and health protection in the Polish mining industry” conference

The 23rd “Problems of safety and health protection in the Polish mining industry” conference, organised under the honorary patronage of the Minister of State Assets, took place in Zawiercie on 30 and 31 March. Over 200 participants, including those from abroad, comprising representatives of the scientific community, institutions associated with the industry, heads of mining and mining-related companies as well as directors of mines and representatives of OHS services, participated in the very meeting.


The event itself was organised by: the State Mining Authority (WUG) in Katowice, the District Labour Inspectorate in Katowice, the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians and the Central Mining Institute. The official opening of the conference was attended among others by Marek Wesoły, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets, Government Plenipotentiary for the transformation of energy and coal mining companies, Piotr Pyzik, Undersecretary of State for Social Dialogue, and Katarzyna Łażewska-Hrycko, Chief Labour Inspector.

The guests were welcomed by the President of the State Mining Authority, Adam Mirek, EngD, who recalled that it was Jan Szczerbiński, the now-deceased Vice-President of the WUG, who was the initiator of the very conference.

During the official opening of the conference, the Badges of Honour for Distinguished Service to Safety in Mining were also awarded. They were received by: Deputy Minister of State Assets Piotr Pyzik, Chief Labour Inspector Katarzyna Łażewska-Hrycko, District Labour Inspector in Katowice Piotr Kalbron and President of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa [Jastrzębie-Zdrój Coal Company] Tomasz Cudny.

The two-day conference was abundant in many interesting speeches and lectures, covering all types of mining techniques and various safety issues and problems present in the mining industry.

The participants exchanged their experiences and established cooperation initiatives on various levels, which only confirmed that the “Problems of safety and health protection in the Polish mining industry” conference is an event that is both important and necessary for the mining industry.
