New technologies, tunnel boring, methane and cybersecurity - highlights from the conference in Wisła

On 19-20 May 2026, the 26th Conference “Health and Safety Issues in the Polish Mining Industry” was held in Wisła under the honorary patronage of the Minister for Energy. The event was organised by the Executive Board of the Association of Mining Engineers and Technicians in cooperation with the State Mining Authority and the Central Mining Institute - National Research Institute.

The conference, which is held regularly, aims to promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences and best practices related to occupational health and safety in the mining sector, while supporting efforts to improve working conditions across the industry. The event brought together representatives from all branches of the mining sector, including industry leaders, experts and specialists in occupational safety and mining hazard prevention.

The conference programme featured presentations on a wide range of current challenges and innovative solutions in the mining industry. Key topics included occupational health and safety, worker health protection, the practical implementation of the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector, lessons learned from previous experiences and emerging challenges, as well as best practices for ensuring safety during tunnel boring operations. Participants also explored modern technologies used in mining machinery and equipment, cybersecurity measures aimed at protecting personnel, machinery and data, and issues related to workforce qualifications, training and professional development in the mining industry.

The conference attracted approximately 200 participants and featured more than 30 expert presentations, providing a valuable platform for discussion and knowledge sharing on the future of safety in mining.
