EU fund supports the just transition of mining regions
On 15 May 2025, the conference 'European coal in transition: from industrial legend to cutting-edge research for the future' was held in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. The event was organised by the European Coal and Lignite Association Euracoal and the European Research Executive Agency and hosted by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa. Representatives of the State Mining Authority, led by President Piotr Litwa, participated in panel discussions.

‘United for a safe future’ at the European Economic Congress
On Wednesday, 23 April 2025, the 17th European Economic Congress started. The three-day event was held in Katowice's International Congress Centre and Spodek Arena under the motto 'United for a safe future'. The meetings and discussions focused on security and economic transformation.

New statute and new department of the State Mining Authority
At the request of the President of the SMA, the Minister of Industry granted a new statute to the State Mining Authority as of 1 April 2025. With its entry into force, the SMA's organisational structure has changed. A new organisational unit is called the Department for the Supervision of Methane Emissions and the Management of Orogen.

‘Kinga’ and ‘Jadwiga’ started tunnelling in the Pisarzowa area
Two TBM machines will drill a railway tunnel in the Małopolska region. On 31 March, near Pisarzowa, in the Limanowa municipality, a ceremony was held to mark the start of construction of a tunnel on the Chabówka - Nowy Sącz railway line 104. The District Mining Office in Kraków supervises the underground drilling.

State Mining Authority‘s special team for tunnelling and tourist routes
On 14 February 2025, the State Mining Authority held the first meeting of a team responsible for improving supervision over tunnelling constructions and tourist underground routes.

Civil Service Day at mining offices
17 February is Civil Service Day. It is the day that marks the anniversary of the first State Civil Service Act of 1922, passed by the Second Polish Republic's Parliament. The members of the civil service corps who celebrate this holiday are employed in state government, including mining offices.

Over 70 Complaints on the Hotline
In 2024, the State Mining Authority received, via a special hotline, 72 complaints regarding irregularities in the operation of mining plants. The validity of the reports was confirmed in 10 cases.

Safety standards for transport, internal combustion engines and crane equipment in the mining industry
The videoconference took place at the State Mining Authority on 11 December 2024. The main topics of the meeting were the current state of safety in mining, the causes and circumstances of accidents occurring in 2023-2024 in transport, the requirements for internal combustion engines for non-road mobile machinery in mining operations and the rules for the inspection of crane equipment in underground workings.
